SAP Cloud Appliance Library

Before you begin using SAP Cloud Appliance Library, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the following concepts and terminology. Depending on the types of tasks you perform, some of these concepts may not apply to you.

Tenant

A tenant provides isolated Web access to the SAP Cloud Appliance Library for a group of users from a particular organization.

SAP Cloud Appliance Library Account

Customers and partners connect to the cloud provider through their own account in SAP Cloud Appliance Library. When configuring this account you should provide the access credentials of the cloud provider to establish the communication between SAP Cloud Appliance Library and the cloud computing environment.

Cloud Provider Account

The user has to set up a cloud provider account to use the solutions in SAP Cloud Appliance Library. There is a charge for using the infrastructure of the cloud provider to run SAP solutions.

Solution Types

In SAP Cloud Appliance Library, you can use the following solution types:
  • Appliance Templates - the appliance templates are latest, preconfigured, ready-to-use SAP solutions that can be instantly deployed into your own public cloud accounts (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform) to kick-start your SAP projects within few hours. They are targeted mainly for test, demo, and evaluation purposes hence their infrastructure costs and provisioning times are optimized. The types of the appliance templates are the following:
    • Educational - these appliance templates are used for educational purposes and they have a free period depending on the course duration.
    • Developer editions - these appliance templates could be used as long as you comply with the terms and conditions of the Developer Agreement.
    • Appliance templates with a free trial period - these appliance templates could be used as trials for the configured free period and afterward if you want to continue using the appliances created from these appliance templates, you have to unlock the subscription period for them.
    • Appliance templates with a subscription period - to unlock the subscription period, you have to own the SAP Product licenses and to purchase the SAP Cloud Appliance Library subscription from the SAP StoreInformation published on SAP site.
  • Products - the products are latest SAP on-premise solutions that can be used to deploy standardized system layout on Microsoft Azure with default or custom software stack following the standard installation process. The deployed systems are distributed on multiple virtual machines and can have High Availability capabilities which makes them suitable also for production use. These solutions for productive deployments are available to SAP customers who have valid licenses for the SAP on-premise products contained in them.

Workload Types

In SAP Cloud Appliance Library, you can use the following workload types:
  • Appliance

The appliances are workloads created from the appliance templates listed under the Appliance Templates tab. Basic management and backup operations for the appliances are available depending on your account role.

  • System

The systems are workloads deployed from the SAP on-premise solutions listed under the Products tab or discovered from your own Microsoft Azure account. Basic management operations for the productive systems are available depending on your account role.

User Roles

In SAP Cloud Appliance Library, you can have the following user roles:
  • Administrator

SAP Cloud Appliance Library has one or more users designated as administrators. The administrator is the user at the customer site who is responsible for user and access management to SAP Cloud Appliance Library.

The user who initially logged on to SAP Cloud Appliance Library (https://cal.sap.com/Information published on SAP site) becomes the first administrator of the library in own tenant. Afterwards, the first administrator can assign the administrator role to other users in SAP Cloud Appliance Library in your tenant. The last user to be logged on as the administrator cannot remove himself or herself from the list of administrator users in the SAP Cloud Appliance Library.

Additionally, the administrator role has permission to manage access to accounts (assign users, change user roles and remove users), delete accounts, deactivate solutions (appliance templates and products), remove accounts assigned to the activated solutions, unlock appliance templates, and perform operations on appliances (connect and reboot) as well as perform appliance backups (delete and restore).

  • Account Owner

SAP Cloud Appliance Library can have one or more users designated as account owners. The first owner of an account is a user in SAP Cloud Appliance Library at the customer site who has the access credentials of the corresponding cloud provider and the authorization to use them. The first owner of the account can assign owner role in the account for other users as well.

Account owners manage accounts in SAP Cloud Appliance Library. They can assign new users to their accounts, change user roles and remove users from their accounts.

Each approved user in SAP Cloud Appliance Library can become an account owner. A user in SAP Cloud Appliance Library can become an account owner in one of two ways:
    • The user creates an SAP Cloud Appliance Library account
    • The user is assigned as an account owner from another account owner of SAP Cloud Appliance Library

The account owners can activate and deactivate solutions (appliance templates and products) and unlock appliance templates. The account owners can manage appliances (create, activate, edit, connect, suspend, reboot and terminate), and manage appliance backups (create, restore and delete). They can create, edit, and delete customized appliance templates.

They can deploy productive systems from the SAP on-premise solutions listed under the Products tab in a Microsoft Azure cloud provider account with the Authorization with Application type and with this type of account the account owners can discover systems which are deployed outside SAP Cloud Appliance Library. The account owners can do basic management for these systems (start and stop). They can terminate productive systems which are deployed via SAP Cloud Appliance Library to stop generating cloud infrastructure costs.

  • Account Operator

Account operators in SAP Cloud Appliance Library have permission to create appliances by using the appliance templates activated for the SAP Cloud Appliance Library account that they are assigned to. Account operators can manage their appliances (activate, edit, connect, suspend, reboot, back up, restore and terminate).

They can perform operations (suspend, activate, reboot, connect, back up such appliances and restore their backups) on all appliances in the account where the account operators are assigned to.

The operators can deploy productive systems from the SAP on-premise solutions listed under the Products tab in the Microsoft Azure cloud provider accounts with the Authorization with Application type and these products are already activated for their accounts in SAP Cloud Appliance Library in which they are assigned to.

  • Account User

Account users in SAP Cloud Appliance Library have permission to create appliances by using the appliance templates activated for the SAP Cloud Appliance Library account that they are assigned to. Account users can manage their appliances (activate, edit, connect, suspend, reboot and terminate), and create backups from their appliances as well as provide business users with the access details for the appliances.

They can deploy productive systems from the SAP on-premise solutions listed under the Products tab in the Microsoft Azure cloud provider accounts with the Authorization with Application type and these products are already activated for their accounts in SAP Cloud Appliance Library in which they are assigned to. The account user who has deployed a productive system via SAP Cloud Appliance Library can terminate it to stop generating cloud infrastructure costs.

  • Business User

Business users can use appliances managed by SAP Cloud Appliance Library if granted access to the appliance and if provided with the access details by a user or an account owner in SAP Cloud Appliance Library.
